Testimonial from Todd Barile..

We fished on the Valerie Thursday, December 11 and had a phenomenal experience. Nicholas, Roseando, and Julio were great! We caught our first ever marlin (striped) as soon as we got out to the Golden Gate and the bites did not slow down. We ended up landing 5 striped marlin and had an amazing time on the water. We saw hundreds of sea lions, several whales, and upwards of 100 marlin. Our captain and mates were constantly working, changing the bait and their tactics, to help us get as many fish as we could! Not only did they help us get our catches in the boat, they also took pictures of us fighting our fish and even got a priceless photo of our "double" hook-up, making it a memory we will never forget! Again, we cannot say enough good things about our experience with Pisces. We absolutely recommend Pisces to anyone looking for a great day of sport-fishing! We will be back next year and plan to book again with Pisces.

An old saying says "you get what you pay for" and we absolutely believe that to be true in our experience with Pisces. Although Pisces is a little higher priced than some competitors, it is without-a-doubt worth the expense! We have fished with another reputable company in Cabo, and although they were respectable, our experience with Pisces does not even compare to our experience with the other. Pisces far surpassed our expectations!

Thank you Tracy and crew for a great day in Cabo!

Happy Holidays!

LaFace family Testimonial...

Hi Tracy,

Just wanted to share with you the McIntrye Family fishing experience this week (12/23) aboard "Rebecca & Ruthless".

The LaFace brothers of Milwaukee, WI aboard Rebecca caught and released 6 Striped Marlin, 2 Dorado and 1 Hammerhead Shark - while Palmers, Flemings and Uncle Bruce of Minneapolis caught 6 Marlin and 1 Dorado.

I have included a picture of 11 yr old Colton LaFace w/ Dad (Sal) boating the largest striped marlin caught aboard Rebecca on the 23rd for your fishing report consideration - I know Colton would be thrilled to see the picture on line if posted.

Thanks for your consideration.

Happy New Year!

Mark Marcus testimonial...

We fished on the "Ruthless" on Tuesday December 9, 2008.

My son and son-in-law caught their first marlins. My granddaughter and daughter also hooked-up their first marlin which I brought to the boat for release.
The trip was anticipated for most of the year and greatly exceeded my expectations.
The "Ruthless" crew is unbelievable in how well they work together and helped our first time marlin fishermen catch and release four fish. The action was continuous with one hook-up after the next.
I have fished Pisces often with the Sandy Schwinn group and never disappointed.
Thank you so much for making this day of our Cabo vacation so successful.
Please thank the "Ruthless" Captain and crew for a fabulous day.
A VERY SATISFIED CUSTOMER!!!
Mark Marcus

Malangone brothers testimonial....

HELLO PISCES,

WE WOULD LIKE TO THANK YOU FOR GUIDING US TO AN AWESOME TWO DAYS OF MARLIN FISHING. THE HONESTY AND LOYALTY OF YOUR BUSINESS AND STAFF IS GREATLY APPRECIATED. CAPTAIN REY FROM "LA BRISA" IS BY FAR, THE BEST WITH JUST ENOUGH AGRESSIVENESS TO DO WHAT IT TAKES TO PUT YOU ON THE FISH. HIS FIRST MATE "ERNESTO" WAS JUST AS PROFESSIONAL AND PROVIDED US WITH GREAT ENTERTAINMENT. THIS WAS A TRIP OF A LIFETIME AND WE WILL RETURN. IT'S BEEN YEARS SINCE MY BROTHER AND I HAVE SPENT QUALITY TIME TOGETHER AND YOU HAVE MADE IT HAPPEN HERE IN CABO.

SINCERELY,

Angler Video

We just got this video from Mike Sokol who fished with us recently aboard 28 ft Adriana. Mike and friends did amazingly well to hook 15 marlin and bring 11 to the boat before releasing them. They had double hook ups and at one time a triple hook up with three of them fighting fish at the same time. As Mike puts it "It was an unforgettable day". Mike is from San Jose, California.
To those of you who haven't done this before, this video produced by the anglers will give you an idea of what to expect on the fishing front and give you a glimpse of the paradise we live in.

80 Marlin in 3 days!!!!

Thanks

My party and I had the absolute pleasure of fishing with Captain Steve, and his crew Rudy, Lobo and Victor, aboard Spartacus at Sea.

I have chartered “dozens” of boats over the years. I have never experienced a captain and crew that were so friendly and willing to do whatever it takes to keep all of us happy. They were timely and efficient. Everything was always perfectly organized, whether it was as simple as coffee and breakfast first thing in the morning to the equipment working, it was a truly an excellent time. These guys never even stopped for a lunch break!

Steve and his crew run a “tight ship”. The boat was spotless each and every day that we arrived. Even with his broken leg, Steve would make sure that we had our music of choice playing or had the food laid out for us. It seemed that no matter what the situation was, Steve and the guys had either already thought of it, or would jump on it and handle it without haste.

The 4 of them worked in unison on this boat. There was never an argument or disagreement about who was supposed to be doing “this job” (which I have seen all too often on other charters).

I really cannot express what an incredible time we had. Coming from the Philadelphia/New Jersey area, we spend 2 entire days traveling to and from Cabo in order to have 3 days of fishing. THIS trip is what we had always hoped for – thanks to Steve and his crew.

By the way, we caught some fish too! On day 1, we landed 29 striped marlin. On day 2, another 26. And on day 3 we landed another 25 marlin, plus 5 dorado. Steve’s goal was for us to land 100 marlin in 3 days, and I think he worked harder at it than we did, otherwise there is no question we would have done it!

Please extend our gratitude to the boat owner as well. Steve and the crew take exceptional care of the boat, inside and out, as well as the fishing equipment. Their pride shows not only while we are on the water fishing, but while Spartacus is docked.

Steve and his crew showed a genuine passion to work hard for us each and every day. I’m an owner in a business, and know that I appreciate when we receive a compliment. To say that Steve and the guys did a great job would be an understatement. I would highly recommend Steve and his crew, along with Spartacus at Sea, to anyone who was considering a charter.

Mike Nosal, Brisco NJ.

Testimonial...Ron and Mary Smart...

I just could not wait to send you these pictures so I downloaded them from our hotel room here in CABO. Monday 11-10-08 was our anniversary and we caught 6 Marlin's with out friends Rod and Kathy Applegate. It was the first time either of them had ever gone bill fishing or even off shore fishing. They had a blast. Ronny and I went out again today and caught 4 Dorado, 2 Marlins's and I caught a Wahoo. The fishing was just awesome. This is my 3rd trip fishing with the Pisces Fleet and it's been great each time. I am enclosing some pictures that maybe you could put on your web-site.

Thanks again,

Ron and Mary Helen Smart and

Mal and Tony, from New Zealand share their story...

Wow! What can we say! Two fisherman traveling from New Zealand desperate to hook up their first Marlin, having tried in many different countries with little success. Our date with destiny was Monday 20th October 2008. On board The Valerie, Roberto the Captain showed us his expertise in finding the right spot. The sea was boiling with Marlin. Two lines were cast out and we got a double hit. At last a chance to catch my first ever marlin only for another boat to run over my line and snap the marlin off. Such disappointment! I thought that was my only chance. But no, Roberto seeing the despair on my face found again another spot. Again a double hit, this time we brought home the two striped marlin! whoopee! what a fantastic feeling! But that was not the end! Again another double hit, then another! A hard fight with one that was desperate to get away. Eventually landing 9 striped marlin and 1 tuna, plus 2 marlin that snapped off between the two of us. Our dreams had most definitely been realized, Roberto we can't thank you and your crew enough for working extremely hard to find us our fish. Your eyes were always scanning the area looking for the ideal place to place the lines. You were quick thinking and got the lines out very quickly enabling many hook-ups. We have now fulfilled our dreams of catching our first marlin. Now of course we will now endeavor to catch our first blue.

On our next trip to Cabo we hope to hook up with you again.

Thanks for a great trip

Mal Tipton and Tony Marshall

Los Cabos Billfish Tournament results

Friday the 17th was the last fishing day for the tournament that kicked of the season, the Los Cabos Billfish Tournament, in its 10th year. Unfortunately there were not a whole lot of blue marlin around. Only one fish qualified, which swept the winnings. Valerie had a fish that came up 10 lbs short of the minimum weight of 300 lbs, for a team from Finland, which was disappointing and one 300 lb plus fish was disqualified as it was mutilated. Other than these there were more striped marlin and dorado than anything else.

Here are the results:

DORADO DIVISION

Summer time, dorado 52 lbs total winnings $18,883.00 us

WAHOO DIVISION

Hang and high, wahoo 44.5 lbs total winnings $11,883 us

TUNA DIVISION

Norbert Images...

Hurricane has no effect on Cabo San Lucas.
The picture of the marina was taken at 10.30 am on Friday, Oct. 10th.

The port was close as a precaution, but we have no rain, now wind and pretty normal waves.

The nearby storm did produce a beautiful sunrise. Photo taken at 6.45 am close to the Old Lighthouse.

We expect the port to be open tomorrow Saturday Oct. 11th.

Red neck (or arm) fishing...

Norbert Update...

It looks like Cabo will be spared the effects of Hurricane Norbert.
The storm is moving on a north westerly track and will be parallel with Cabo in the early hours of Friday morning.
From the projected track, it will pass just north of the tip of the peninsula.

Weather update, Norbert

HURRICANE NORBERT DISCUSSION NUMBER 19
NWS TPC/NATIONAL HURRICANE CENTER MIAMI FL EP152008
800 AM PDT WED OCT 08 2008

NORBERT UNDERWENT RAPID INTENSIFICATION OVERNIGHT...AND THE CYCLONE
NOW HAS AN IMPRESSIVE SATELLITE PRESENTATION CONSISTING OF A
WELL-DEFINED EYE SURROUNDED BY A RING OF VERY DEEP CONVECTION. THE
INITIAL INTENSITY IS INCREASED TO 110 KT BASED ON A COMPROMISE
BETWEEN THE SUBJECTIVE DVORAK ESTIMATES OF 102 KT AND OBJECTIVE
DVORAK ESTIMATES NEAR 125 KT. WITH THE LARGE-SCALE ENVIRONMENT
EXPECTED TO REMAIN FAVORABLE FOR ANOTHER DAY OR SO...INTENSITY
WILL BE LARGELY CONTROLLED BY THE INNER-CORE STRUCTURAL EVOLUTION
IN THE SHORT-TERM. FORECASTING SUCH INNER-CORE CHANGES IS
DIFFICULT BUT GUIDANCE SUGGEST THAT NORBERT COULD GET A LITTLE
STRONGER...PERHAPS REACHING CATEGORY 4 STRENGTH. IN ABOUT 36-48
HOURS...VERTICAL SHEAR IS FORECAST TO INCREASE AND SSTS GRADUALLY
DECREASE ALONG THE FORECAST TRACK. ADDITIONALLY...NORBERT COULD BE
NEGATIVELY IMPACTED BY RELATIVELY STABLE AIR TO ITS NORTHWEST.
STILL...NORBERT COULD APPROACH BAJA CALIFORNIA AS A HURRICANE...AND
INTERESTS OVER THE CENTRAL AND SOUTHERN PORTIONS OF THE PENINSULA
SHOULD MONITOR THE PROGRESS OF THIS SYSTEM.

NORBERT CONTINUES TO MOVE AROUND A STRONG RIDGE OVER THE
SOUTHWESTERN UNITED STATES RESULTING IN A WEST-NORTHWEST HEADING...
OR 290 DEGREES AT 8 KNOTS. A GRADUAL TURN TOWARD THE NORTHWEST IS
EXPECTED DURING THE NEXT TWO DAYS AS THE CYCLONE REACHES THE
WESTERN PERIPHERY OF THE RIDGE. THEREAFTER...A TURN TOWARD THE
NORTH AND NORTHEAST WITH AN INCREASE IN FORWARD SPEED IS EXPECTED
AS A LARGE MID-LATITUDE TROUGH DEVELOPS OVER THE WESTERN UNITED
STATES AND ADJACENT PACIFIC. WHILE ALL OF THE DYNAMICAL MODELS
FORECAST THIS TROUGH TO DEVELOP...THEY DISAGREE SOMEWHAT ON
NORBERT'S STRENGTH...AND HENCE ITS VERTICAL DEPTH...WHEN IT REACHES
THE TROUGH. MOST OF THE TRACK MODEL SHOW A DEEP CYCLONE RESPONDING
TO THE TROUGH BY ACCELERATING NORTHEASTWARD IN ABOUT 3 DAYS.
HOWEVER...THE GFS AND THE ECMWF MODELS STILL SHOW NORBERT RAPIDLY
BECOMING A SHALLOW SYSTEM AS IT NEARS THE BAJA PENINSULA RESULTING
IN A REDUCTION IN FORWARD SPEED OR EVEN STALLING IN THE VICINITY OF
BAJA CALIFORNIA. SINCE THESE HIGHLY-RESPECTED MODELS CANNOT BE
IGNORED...THE OFFICIAL FORECAST IS A LITTLE SLOWER THAN THE
DYNAMICAL MODEL CONSENSUS AT DAY 4.

A little comment from a client...

I have fished with your fleet before and found the 31 Bertram's catch a lot of fish-can't wait to get there! Thank you for being the best organized and managed fleet in Cabo.

Dream come true for Austrian father and son...

Hola Jorge,

i have to apologize for writing so late, but after our 20 h trip home, stress came back quicker than i imagined. Anyways, being home and looking at the outstanding results of our trip on the 21. just makes me forget all the stress in a snap.
We went out on "Tracy Ann" targeting our first ever Marlin.
I couldn't believe my eyes when, just after an hour of trolling, Captain Julio Castro spotted a leaping Marlin and started heading full speed towards him. In the meantime our deckhand, who´s name i lost somehow, fired a live bait in the marlins direction. We could actually see the Marlin turn, speed up, an nail that bait. Just stunning.....
After such a start we kept fishing with big smiles on our faces which got even bigger when my dad stuck into another Striped Marlin just an hour after the first one.
We also kept catching Dorado up to 40lbs till we headed back to the marina.

The next day we had a day off in our schedule, but you know, a fisherman cant get fishing out of his head,... so we decided to let the Pisces - guys organize a Panga for us to fulfill an inshore fishing dream of mine. To catch a Rooster fish. And guess what...... besides 30(!) Dorados we caught a beautiful Rooster.
Once again the crew had great performance.
We´d like to thank everybody at Pisces for making our trip unforgettable. We´ll definitely see each other next year.

Kind regards

Christopher and Cenk Durukal, Austria.

Great day aboard a Bill Collector and Cabolero

Dear Pisces Sport Fishing,

On September 20 I chartered the Bill Collector and Cabolero for my Brothers bachelor party. Between the 12 guys and two boats we caught or released over
30 Dorado and one striped marlin. I wouldn't recommend partying as hard as we did the night before, but despite frequent trips to the side of the boat we were able to catch plenty of fish. Everyone we dealt with was great. The guys in the office were very helpful getting everything reserved, the deckhands made sure we were loaded and ready and the captains of the two boats were great at putting us on the fish. We had a great time and will definitely be back. Thanks again for making our trip one to remember.

Brad Wallace, Fortworth TX.

Sun fish caught in Cabo...aka Mola Mola...

Hi guys,

We received this photo from our friend Caboguy, they caught a 450lbs Sunfish back in June, it took them 2 hours to get it to the boat with 50lbs test tackle.

Here is the ugly fish...

Now...here is a bit of information about the sunfish or Mola Mola...

The ocean sunfish, Mola mola, or common mola, is the heaviest known bony fish in the world. It has an average adult weight of 1 tonne (2,200 lbs). The species is native to tropical and temperate waters around the globe. It resembles a fish head with a tail, and its main body is flattened laterally. Sunfish can be as tall as they are long when their dorsal and ventral fins are extended.

Sunfish live on a diet that consists mainly of jellyfish. Because this diet is nutritionally poor, they consume large amounts in order to develop and maintain their great bulk. Females of the species can produce more eggs than any other known vertebrate. Sunfish fry resemble miniature puffer fish, with large pectoral fins, a tail fin and body spines uncharacteristic of adult sunfish.

Adult sunfish are vulnerable to few natural predators, but sea lions, orcas and sharks will consume them. Among humans, sunfish are considered a delicacy in some parts of the world, including Japan, the Korean peninsula and Taiwan, but sale of their flesh is banned in the European Union.[1] Sunfish are frequently, though accidentally, caught in gill nets, and are also vulnerable to harm or death from encounters with floating trash, such as plastic bags.

A member of the order Tetraodontiformes, which also includes puffer fish, porcupine fish and file fish, the sunfish shares many traits common to members of this order. It was originally classified as Tetraodon mola under the puffer fish genus, but it has since been given its own genus, Mola, with two species under it. The ocean sunfish, Mola mola, is the type species of the genus.

I don't know about you guys, but I would need to be really hungry to try this delicacy...

Ok, that was not a piranha...

In one of our earlier posts we had information of a world record piranha caught in the Amazons, however, it has come to my attention that it was not in fact a piranha but an African tiger fish.

Here is the difference:

Piranhas are normally about 15 to 25 cm long (6 to 10 inches), although reportedly individuals have been found up to 43 cm (18.0 inches) in lengthSerrasalmus, Pristobrycon, Pygocentrus, and Pygopristis are most easily recognized by their unique dentition. All piranhas have a single row of sharp teeth in both jaws; the teeth are tightly packed and interlocking (via small cusps) and used for rapid puncture and shearing. Individual teeth are typically broadly triangular, pointed, and blade-like (flat in profile). There is minor variation in the number of cusps; in most species the teeth are tricuspid with a larger middle cusp that makes the individual teeth appear markedly triangular. The exception is Pygopristis, which has pentacuspid teeth and a middle cusp that is usually only slightly larger than the other cusps. In the scale-eating Catoprion, the shape of their teeth is markedly different and the premaxillary teeth are in two rows, as in most other serrasalmines.

This is a piranha caught in Lake St. Clair August 20th, 2007

Here is the African Tiger Fish

The African Tigerfish - Hydrocynus goliath is the worlds largest member of the Characins which consist of all of the fish in the following families tetras, dollars, pencilfish, piranhas. The African Tigerfish is big, powerful, and well armed with big evil looking teeth. These teeth have made the African Tigerfish one of the most sought after exotic sportfish. They lives in the rivers and streams of central and northern Africa.

The African Tigerfish gets its name from the horizontal black bands run along the entire body as much as from the fierce looking teeth it possesses that show even when the mouth is shut.

To add even more to the reputation of this fish besides the size and ferocious look is the fact they despite the large size they hunt in packs just as piranhas do. Luckily they feed primarily on other fish although there are unverified reports of attacks on people.

Thank you for my release certificate

Tracy,

Thank you for sending me my Release Certificate!

I would greatly appreciate it if you could send me the weekly fishing report that you wrote for the week beginning July 23, 2008 and ending August 30, 2008. Lisette and I were so busy when we returned from our trip to Cabo that by the time we checked your web site, you had already posted the fishing report for the week beginning August 31, 2008.

We had another great time fishing with the Pisces team and we look forward to our next visit to Cabo and again fishing with the Pisces team. I referred my friend, David Pincus, to fish with Pisces and he had a great experience fishing on the Rebecca and the Andrea. Thank you!

Fish-em and Release-em!
