In Cabo we eat the fish, not the other way around...

Yet again another reason to fish in Cabo….we don’t have any fish likely to eat you, such as this world record piranha caught in the Amazon

Quick Rig video

This is a new tool that we are implementing on some of our Pisces boats, to enable the crew to rig bait more quickly and effectively for use with a circle hook.
The advantage to the way bait are rigged in this way is the freedom of movement, resulting in a bait that swims naturally.

Tropical Storm Julio

A lot of you have contacted us concerned about the tropical weather that approached Baja today.
Tropical storm Julio brought rain on Saturday night, some rain on Sunday morning and winds that gusted to about 30 mph, for about half an hour. Seas were rough, with whitecaps and swells. The port was closed for the day, but as we end Sunday, there is no rain, skies are partially cloudy and seas are almost back to normal. We appreciated the much needed rain and cooler temperatures. Below is a short clip of what it look like from the Pacific side, half a mile from the Old Lighthouse.

Meet Juan and Francisco, Pisces staff

In this photo Pisces staffers, Juan and Francisco are seen. Francisco is the Tae Kwon Do expert (black belt)in the white suit and Juan is holding the practice kick paddle. They are training for how to deal with customers who complain about not catching any fish.......just kidding.....

At Pisces we like to know all about who are team are and what they are hobbies are. We encourage staff to share their interests and invite others to join them.

Tae kwon do, is a very popular sport in Mexico. Although it originated in Korea, Mexico are the best in the world at this sport. The only two gold medals we won in the Bejing Olympics were for this sport, first place men and women.

Diving Cabo for the first time...

By Ady Moya:

I need to share another adventure with you all, …… diving! Without question, under the water there is another world; a brilliant one full of colors, shapes and funny noises. Here we encounter in their natural environment, the species that we get so excited about when we go fishing.
In just a few days I have been able to admire schools of manta rays, spider crabs, clown fish, cabrillas, lobsters, eels, schools of tiny and big toothed fish, who are interested in you, a funny creature in a neoprene wetsuit, with bubbles all around . We need to have admiration and respect for the sub aquatic world , which is so close to the fishing we enjoy and yet something we don’t see in our regular environment. Because I cannot say hi with a smile, I thought I would communicate it by blinking…..let’s go diving.

Great day aboard the Valerie...

Thanks for a great time, #2, and not the last. Capt.Nicolas and Rosendo did an awesome job. Here's a pic of one of the Sailfish caught on the Valerie by my wife Karen on Aug 14th. We also released a sailfish and striped marlin estimated at 160#s. We'll be back soon.

Comments on large marlin

We have received several aggressive emails from anglers berating us for the dead, almost 900 lb marlin – which we didn’t kill. This fish was caught at the East Cape aboard a boat called Rude Baby. Yes, we are still pro-conservation, yes we still actively promote catch and release. Our release rate is 98.5% and we release thousands of marlin a year. However, the law in Mexico allows each angler holding a fishing license to kill one marlin per day. In Cabo we have a self imposed agreement, which lowers this to one marlin per boat per day, between local fleet owners. We talk to anglers ahead of time and suggest that they release their billfish, but, if they decide to keep one, they are within their rights. Nearly all anglers prefer to release. Some fish die, some anglers want the meat. The tiny percentage of what is kept by sportsfishing is not even a drop in a bucket to what commercial boats take. It’s funny but during big money tournaments like Bisbee, nobody says a word about the fish being killed. Even pro conservationists participate in these tournaments and that is their decision. You can be a conservationist, but it does not mean that you never kill a fish.

Birthday toast aboard Bill Collector

Our good friend Johnny Mack Powers fished recently and celebrated his wife birthday aboard Bill Collector, as you can see he had a great time, caught fish and went home happy. Thanks Johnny for continuing to fish with Pisces we appreciate your loyalty.

Pisces,
Just thought I would drop you a note to let you know what a great time we had, caught a lot of tuna 17, 30 to 40 pounds, 3 large dorado up to 40 pounds, and one sailfish, a pequeno one, but our friend Eric had never caught one so, it was worth the trip to watch him. As you know the Pisces crew was great ( Juan / Adriana / both Jorge's ) They helped me have a surprise birthday party on the boat 8/8/08 with cake and champagne. We really got her and all of us and the crew had a toast, she will never forget this birthday. Captain Julio and mate Esteban are the best, we really enjoy their company they can make a dull day of fishing fun and a great day of fishing the BEST. So far no dull days or skunks, after seven trips, knock on wood. Each morning the boat smells of pine soil. Can't wait till December, and the Finger Banks. For the money Bill Collector the best crew / boat going in Cabo, and we have been coming down since 1995.
