Monster marlin caught...

Hi anglers,

We had rumors of a 900 lbs blue marlin caught at the East Cape, now, we can confirm that.

The fish was caught on July 3rd and weighted 898 lbs 25 miles off of the East Cape. Angler
was Jim Schubert from Clovis, California. Believe it or not this fish was caught from a PANGA…..the tackle was 60 lb test spooled on a Senator 112H and the monster fish took a Zuker blood orange lure with some brown.

The fight lasted three and half hours, during which Jim had to contend with a couple of monsoon type downpours and 25 foot swells, though he told me the rain sure felt good to cool him off.

Captain Chuy did a good job whilst motoring the “Rude Baby” and called his brother on a larger boat once the fish was gaffed to try and help them get the fish to shore, however the task proved impossible and they ended up tying the huge fish to the side of the panga and motoring in slowly, taking over three hours to get back.

This is the largest marlin caught in Baja to our knowledge for at least fifteen years.

Well done Jim, you are some angler!

Here you can appreciate the length of this magnificent creature, though it’s sad to see it dragged thru the sand.

A testimonial from our friends, the Levensons

Dear Oscar,

We wanted to write to express our most sincere thanks for providing us a "once in a lifetime" experience aboard the Ruthless on Tues. July 15, 2008! Our Captain, Leon, and Mate, Beto were absolutely outstanding in every respect in making it possible for our family to experience the thrill of catching a spectacular 425 pound blue marlin! Not even in our wildest of dreams did we believe we would experience such a jaw dropping adventure!! We all highly recommended Pisces Fishing Fleet to anyone willing to take on the challenges & joys of deep-sea fishing. We not only caught a fabulous fish we also enjoyed seeing dolphins and sea turtles on our excursion! Oscar, we can't thank you enough for everything you did for us i.e., arranging to take pictures of us with our blue marlin when our own camera failed us, promptly delivering the fillets to our restaurant for our celebration dinner, and providing us with a CD to take home for our memory book. Everything about our fishing experience, thanks to Pisces Fishing Fleet was nothing less than first rate!! I wish you and your fishing crew continued success in Cabo!!

Warm Regards,

The Levenson Family

(Melany, Howard, Dan & Matt)

How to rig a mackerel, circle hook...

This is the way they rig live bait with circle hooks in Australia, of course their bait and hook sizes are bigger than ours, but it's interesting to see different techniques.

Currently we are testing "Quick Rig", a tool that allows for record fast rigging with the circle hook, watch for it on your next trip to Cabo.

We will have a video showing this technique shortly.

Meet Cabo San Lucas Port Captain Luis Jorge Ochoa

This is the Port Captain, great guy, who was kind enough to participate in the Stars and Stripes Tournament held here in Cabo last month.
This event raised $2,100,000.00 dollars for children´s charities and in particular a mentoring program.

Here the Port Captain is giving away rods and reels to each child in attendance.

The REAL fly fishing technique???

A good friend of ours, Dick Gebhart sent us this cool video....we thought it was a real eye opener.....so wanted to share it with you. What do you think is it real? I wondered why the guy didn't take his sunglasses off before diving into the water which is a bit suspect. Let us know what you think.

Fishing from San Jose del Cabo

You are in the Marlin Capital of the world, but you don't want to catch a marlin...so what to do?

Why not try fishing by panga? or even one of our regular boats out of Puerto Los Cabos?

Catches are close by and there is a variety of fish.

Our very own Mario Bañaga takes care of you and meets and greets you both in the morning and afternoon at the dock.

Boats leaving from Puerto Los Cabos have a great success rate catching small game, but can also get you a nice marlin or sailfish.

If you are staying at San Jose del Cabo area, it makes sense to leave from there, especially in summertime.

Here are some pics of the boats available in Puerto Los Cabos.

Dorado Shoot Out Tournament

Hi anglers

A couple of days ago there was a tournament on the East Cape, the 2008 Dorado Shoot Out.

A total of 131 boats were signed up and about 500 people.

This year’s entry fee was $250 usd per team.

One of the prizes was a 23ft completely rigged Super Panga built by Van Diaz Boats.

The prize for the biggest Dorado went for Dax Morgan aboard the Captain Morgan, Captain Steve Morgan, with a 64.4 lbs Bull Dorado.

Dax also won 2nd place on the 2007 WON Tuna Tournament with a 142.2 lbs yellow fin.

At the moment we don't have a picture of the winning Dorado, but here's the picture of the BIG check...
