Latest Trip Advisor Review

Don't take our word for it:
Reviewed January 29, 2013 NEW

Booked a full-day charter (6 people) 42 ft Bertram with Pisces sports fishing on 1/22/13. Originally we had made arrangements with Pisces to come to Puerto Los Cabos for a pick-up, since we were staying in the area. The night before we received a call asking us to drive to Cabo San Lucas to pick-up the charter because the fishing was better down on the Pacific Coast- so we did. It turned out to be one of the best fishing adventures that all six of us had been on. Caught 4 Dorado, 1 8ft Marlin, and 14 30lb Tuna all before 10:30 am! Unbelievable! Highly recommend Pisces!

Fish Report (yes it's two days late....sorry)

JANUARY 19TH TO 25TH, 2013
Overall Catch Success Rate for all Species Combined 94%
Numbers at a glance: 74% billfish, 54% tuna, 49%

BILLFISH: This week we saw a definite slowdown on anglers but not on fishing.  We had some stupendous catches, headed up by Gibbons Addison from Baton Rouge, Louisiana who had “the best offshore fishing trip I have ever been on”. Gibbons researched the Cabo fleets and decided on Pisces and the “Tracy Ann”, this turned out to be a good decision. He ended up catching and releasing a striped marlin, losing another, catching nine tuna, as well as an unexpected large blue marlin, that was mixed in with the tuna and took him four and a half hours to release – the boat got back well after dark and the big fish was estimated at 500 lbs plus. There were really so many great catches this week – Pisces “La Brisa” released a total of five striped marlin for Brad Aitken and friends from Clinton, Canada at the Golden Gate on the 24th. Next day out, this same boat managed another four striped marlin ranging in size from 100 to 130 lbs for the same anglers. Pisces “Tracy Ann” also had a quadruple marlin day for the Sheltons and Jenkins from Florida, also at the Golden Gate. Pisces Valerie and Shambala did well also, totaling three marlin each this day. Mike and Sue Sturges, first time Cabo anglers from East Hampton, Connecticut had a sailfish and two striped marlin aboard Pisces Adriana. Most of the boats this week headed out for yellowfin tuna, but still managed to find a marlin or two to the south of Cabo 10 to 20 miles out. Later in the week the bite switched to Golden Gate as well as other locations on the Pacific; live mackerel was the best thing to use to get a hook up. Seventy four percent of our boats caught billfish this week consisting of 45 striped marlin, 1 blue marlin and 1 sailfish – all were released.
OTHER SPECIES: For sheer numbers yellow fin tuna was the most numerous species, with a total of 208 caught by our anglers, with catches ranging from four to twenty six fish per boat. Sizes ranged from 15 to 35 lbs with cedar plugs the most popular way to catch them. We had very busy anglers, such as Sadie Whipple from Snoqualmie, Washington who with her party released a striped marlin & boated eight tuna and four dorado aboard Pisces Adriana. Hands down Pisces Tracy Ann was our top boat this week, not only for the huge blue marlin mentioned above but also for tuna.  On January 23rd they caught twenty three tuna and released two marlin for Bob Keeney and friends from Michigan, 19 miles out from the lighthouse. The following day they caught twenty six tuna up to 30 lbs for Tim Blackwell from Indiana who with his friends also managed to release a striped marlin. The tuna bit stayed good until the tuna seiners moved into the area and scooped up the large schools which we had been enjoying over the past few weeks. Fifty four percent of boats found the tuna schools generally located 15 to 20 miles out. Dorado catches were not bad with forty nine percent of boats finding fish up to 30 lbs, however, when found catches were usually of one to three fish, though some boats caught up to seven. These were not in any set place but tended to be picked up whilst trolling for marlin. Inshore not a lot happening for us except some fantastic whale watching and the odd needle fish or skipjack.  A few small wahoo were also caught this week.
WEATHER CONDITIONS: Don’t want to make you jealous but beautiful. Clear sunny skies, smooth seas. Pacific was like glass on many days.
LOCATION:  Pacific, Old Lighthouse to Golden Gate.
AVERAGE WATER TEMP: 74 F
BEST LURES: Live mackerel, cedar plugs, and feathers.

Ouch!

We got this photo from Zach Morrow from Highlands Ranch, Colorado. He fished on Pisces Bill Collector with his friends and they were pleased to have caught 14 tuna and 2 doardo before 11.30 - when this happened.
Zach had nothing but admiration for the crew, in his own words  - the dorado had been gaffed and was still attached to the lure, when it thrashed and got off of the gaff  "Here it is! The dorado that hooked the poor first mates foot on the bill collector, that guy was very tough!!! As the dorado was still attached to him spinning and flipping that hook kept ripping more meat from his skin... After it was all done he told us we could still keep fishing!!!! What a crew u have!!!"

A painful lesson to learn and we are sure he will be very careful from now on, though he has gaffed and safely boated over a thousand dorado you always have to keep your guard up....accidents can happen.

Lucky Fishing Couple

I think the anglers faces say it all.....pictured here are Mike and Sue Sturges from East Hampton, Conneticut. They fished two day on Andrea and ended up releasing a sailfish & two striped marlin. Not bad for some first timers who decided to book last minute.

Here's the Fish Report

JANUARY 12TH TO 18TH, 2012

Overall Catch Success Rate 100%

Numbers at a glance: Marlin 30%, Dorado 33%, Tuna 79%

BILLFISH: Billfish catches were decent this week though not fantastic – well that is with the exception of Pisces Fearless, a 50 ft Viking and our boat of the week.  On January 17th Anthony Huray and family from Singapore were on board this vessel and were amazed to catch and release seven striped marlin. This crew found a small school of marlin just past the Old Lighthouse and caught the seven stripers on a combination of ballyhoo and orange colored lures. Other boats did catch the odd marlin here and there as well as yellow fin tuna, but then it was a choice they had to make – head offshore for the almost guaranteed tuna catch, or stick around the lighthouse area for a “maybe” shot at marlin. Nevertheless thirty percent of charters did catch a marlin during their trip, with sizes ranging from 100 to 180 lbs. Another boat that had a busy day was Pisces 31 ft Bertram Rebecca, for Alicia Levy and her family from Sheridan, Wyoming – they fished at San Jaime and at Migrino and released on striped marlin and caught twenty four tuna and two dorado. Pisces anglers caught a total of seventeen striped marlin – all released.

OTHER SPECIES: Yellow fin tuna were by far the most numerous sportfish caught in Cabo this week with almost eighty percent of boats catching between two and thirty six fish in a day ranging in size from 20 to 30 lbs. The majority of the tuna were found 20 to 23 miles out from the Lighthouse and took cedar plugs more than any other lure.  Pisces 31 ft Bertram Tracy Ann had a stupendous day for Jeff Lemming from Atlanta, Georgia, on January 16th,  who with friends, caught thirty six tuna, of which they released ten, as well as a striped marlin.  This same day, Rebecca loaded up with thirty yellow fins for Joe Baily and party, from Andover, Minnesota. Most boats had tuna catches in the double digits leading to a total count of 377 for Pisces boats.  Dorado catches were steady with thirty three percent of boats catching from one to six fish – live bait was what worked on this species this week, preferably mackerel. Weights on the dorado were 20 to 35 lbs.  Stan Gribble was out on Pisces 48 Cabo Great Escape on January 12th and landed a nice 45 lb wahoo, larger than what we have been seeing lately, as well as capturing two dorado.

LOCATION: Pacific – Los Arcos to San Jaime.
WEATHER: Pretty cold in Cabo this week, partly cloudy and in the 40’s at nighttime. Seas mostly calm.
AVERAGE WATER TEMP: 71-72 F
BEST LURES: Cedar plugs, mackerel, green and orange colored lures.

Pisces Fish Report

PISCES FISH REPORT
January 5th TO 11TH, 2013

Overall Catch Success Rate 95.23%

Number at a glance:

Billfish: 57.55% Dorado: 65% Tuna: 57.50%

BILLFISH: Water is warming up, weather is cooling down, its crazy, its Cabo.
Great week for fishing, perfect weather, we had a couple of days that looked cloudy early in the morning but the sky cleared and the sun was shining. This week we had some very nice catches, although most of the clients who came by the office and talked to us were looking strictly for fish to take home, they still ended up catching a few marlin. “Tracy Ann” released 2 stripeys for Duane Kilsdong’s party from Hermiston OR, and they landed 20 yellow fin tunas and 6 dorados. “La Brisa” with Captain Rey Winkler released 3 striped marlins for Greg Cadrain from Alberta Canada, “Valerie” released 4 striped marlin and landed 3 doardos for Tom Lypps also from Canada ties up with “Andrea” with 4 stripeys released for Bruce & Sandra Harder ALSO from Canada, they also landed 2 yellow fin tunas and one dorado. Canda really took the glory this week! A total of 40 striped marlin were caught this week, all of them were released.

OTHER CATCHES: Dorado success rate remains around the same, however the quantity of fish has slowed down a little, with an average of 4 dorados per boat, and a few 2 digit catches like the “Valerie” who takes the Dorado catch of the week with 18 of them for Jason Ellis from Boston, however, the Small Game catch of the week has to go to “Bill Collector” with angler Martha Chisholm from Singer Island, FL, with 10 wahoos, 20 yellow fin tunas and 15 dorados. As for the yellow fin tuna, the increase was amazing, as the water started to warm up, we are catching them by the ton, from an 8% success rate went all the way up to 57%. The catch started slow with one or two fish per boat but by the end of the week the average was 9 fish per boat with some high catches like our friend Martha had.

LOCATION: First half of the week was on the Sea of Cortes side, all the way to Punta Gorda and Palmilla, the other half was straight out from the Arch up to 25-27 miles, Margaritas and Golden Gate Banks.

WEATHER CONDITIONS: A bit cloudy a couple of days for a few hours but mostly sunny.

AVERAGE WATER TEMP: 76-78 F

BEST LURES: Mackarel, dead ballyhoo, assorted lures.

PISCES FISH REPORT
DEC 29th 2012 to JAN 4th, 2013
Overall Catch Success Rate 99%
Numbers at a glance: Billfish 73%, Dorado 78%, Tuna 7.6%
BILLFISH: Fishing is stupendous in Cabo right now, lots of striped marlin, loads of dorado and a huge 1000 lb plus fish that got away. Captain Ricardo Agundez aboard Pisces “Great Escape Jr” was out on December 29th, aboard his vessel a 35 ft Cabo, with angler Richard McNew from Grand Rapids, Michigan aboard. They headed up the Pacific and picked up ten dorado off of Las Margaritas. They started to head further up the coast towards San Jaime and had a couple of striped marlin come up and tease them, they put out some ballyhoo but couldn’t get a hook-up, suddenly they saw a marlin cutting through the water towards their bait and thought it was a striper, but as it got closer to the boat and swallowed the bait, they saw that is was a massive marlin…I asked the captain “How big?” he said , “I am not exaggerating, it was more than 1000 lbs”, I asked “Bigger than the 800 lb’er that you got two years ago?” he replied “Much bigger”. Keeping his previous catch in mind I knew he giving a truthful estimate. They fought the fish for five hours and twenty minutes; it parked itself like a truck, just twenty feet from the boat and about five feet below the surface and they could not budge it. When they initially hooked up they were four miles offshore, between Margaritas and San Jaime but by the time they lost the fish, the were a further nine miles out.  The rod snapped, two guides, below the tip and the line broke and the fish was gone. It is interesting to note, that most of the largest fish ever caught in Cabo, have been close to shore and off-season – in fact there is always one really big fish caught right around the first week of January, perhaps this one was it. Striped marlin catches were also excellent this week resulting in a seventy three percent catch success rate for billfish. Some of the catches were outstanding and pretty much all were accompanied by a smattering of dorado.  Everybody did so well we don’t have room to mention all the great catches – January 3rd was particularly good when Pisces 61 ft Viking “El Gallo” released eleven striped marlin ranging in size from 100 to 160 lbs, at the Old Lighthouse for the Narsete family from Texas. This same day Pisces “Cabolero” released five marlin for Nate Jiona & Jenny Velasquez from Houston. Pisces “Adriana” also released five stripers for Mick Liska & Josh Smith from Ohio & Indianapolis respectively. January 2nd saw “El Gallo” producing the goods again with five marlin for Leighton Tervitt from Singapore, as well as three dorado. Pisces “Fearless” got four stripers for Luis Camarena from Mexico City along with eight dorado. “Yahoo” had anglers from Atlanta on board and also released five this same day. Pisces “Bill Collector” also deserves a mention for five stripers released and fourteen dorado (6 released) for Tom Shipsey from Novato, California, on New Year’s Eve. Pisces anglers caught a total of 137 striped marlin and 1 sailfish – all but one released. THANK YOU anglers for letting the fish go.
OTHER SPECIES: It is quite unusual to still have so many dorado around; in fact it seems more like November right now. The water temperature is still above 70 F and could be the reason they are still sticking around.  Anglers caught from one to sixteen with weights between 15 and 35 lbs. Both lures and bait worked well for this species. Our total count for dorado was 367 fish, with many released. Tuna catches slowed down considerably this week with just eight percent of boats catching school size fish, but then again with marlin & dorado catches so good, only a few boats even tried for them. Pisces “Tracy Ann” had a wonderful day on December 29th, with ten dorados, a mako shark and two striped marlin for Marlin Schul from Indianapolis. We had three small wahoo, some skipjacks, a cabrilla, one yellow tail and needlefish caught by our panga clients.  Lots of whales to see in the area at the moment.
LOCATION: Pacific, Land’s End to San Jaime.
WEATHER CONDITIONS: Several cloudy days, with rain on December 30th, now clear. Seas are calm.
AVERAGE WATER TEMP: 73 F
BEST LURES: Live mackerel, ballyhoo, green/yellow, petrolero, orange/brown.

Marlin Bite On!

MARLIN BITE ON!
Yesterday Pisces 61 ft Viking, "El Gallo", released ELEVEN striped marlin at the Old Lighthouse for Michael Jr, Michael Sr, as well as Connor Narsete from Texas. Way to go guys! Other boats averaged one to five marln, plus dorado.
