Dreams do come true!
You
know fishing in Cabo is usually a once in a lifetime experience for
many anglers. Angler Raymond Vega from Odessa TX, his dream was to catch
either a marlin or a sailfish, he was worried as yesterday the port was
closed due to rain, and did not open until today around 7am, so we
called our clients, let them know it was OK to go and all went out.
Unfortunately, Mrs. Vega got seasick and the boat
came back to shore at 9:45am, but Ray had waited his whole life to this
chance and decided to go back out by himself, and after 20 minutes
trolling, deckhand Martín spotted a sailfish going after the lures, he
immediately threw a line with live bait and hit the sail right in the
mouth, Ray took the rod and within 35 minutes, he got his sail on the
boat and made his dream come true. He was aboard the Tracy Ann, this
time captained by Nicolas Winkler.

PISCES FISH REPORT AUGUST 18th to 24th, 2012
Overall Catch Success Rate 100%
BILLFISH: This past week, every single boat caught at least one fish, unfortunately,
the water is getting a bit too warm for the billfish and we don’t have much to
report about these guys. Also, most of the clients were looking for fish to
take home to eat. “Valerie” released the only striped marlin of the week for
Cooper Hogg from San Angulo TX, 3 small sailfish were caught, unfortunately,
only one was released. “Great Escape Jr caught a 180lbs blue marlin for Matt
Ward from Walnut Creek, CA. Most of the catches were at the Pacific side at the
Golden Gate bank.
OTHER CATCHES: Yellow fin tuna was the best catch this week, with 85% of the boats
catching these babies. They are still at the football size stage but they are catching
them in good numbers. There were some really nice catches; “Rebecca” caught 16
tunas between 16 to 18lbs for Randy Newton from Aller TX. “Tracy Ann” went
ahead and caught 23 for Thomas & Deborah Moertl from Wauwatosa WI. We
thought that was going to be the catch of the week, but then “Rebecca” catches
29 for Walter Coy from Texas, we are thinking, ok, this guy is going to get the
catch of the week, but no!, Captain Julio Castro and the “Tracy Ann” sure love
to be the highlight of the reports, they made Angus Wear from the UK, fight 33
tunas with an average weight of 20 to 25lbs. A total of 380 tunas were caught
this week, the major part of them were released. Dorado slowed down quite a bit
as well because of the warm water, only 30% of the boats caught dorado. “Yahoo”
caught a very nice 45lbs wahoo for birthday girl Cassy Caldwell from Dallas TX.
LOCATION: Pacific, Golden Gate, San Jaime, Margaritas.
WEATHER CONDITIONS: The rain is gone, the heat is back and with a vengeance, with an average
temp of 95F some days reaching the 107F
AVERAGE WATER TEMP: 88-90 F
BEST LURES: Cedar plugs, green lures..

PISCES FISH REPORT AUGUST 11th to 17th, 2012
Overall Catch Success Rate 94.44%
BILLFISH: What a week! Héctor brought us 3 days of rain, in a row! That does not
happen often; last rain we saw was about a year ago and lasted 10 minutes. For
a little bit we were worried about the strong rain and the wind, but the Harbor
Master gave us a go and we went fishing with rain and wind, all the clients
were happy to go and the catch was amazing, they got soaked but they caught
fish, a lot of fish.
The sea was a little bit rough on the way out, 5 to
6ft waves but after a 5 mile ride it was like a swimming pool. As the water ran
down the hills, the creeks brought a lot of debris to the ocean which is great
for fishing, usually the logs they drag are filled with bugs and dorado just
love them bugs! There were only a couple of people who got seasick, the rest
did take the Dramamine and did perfectly fine, I always say it’s better to be
sleepy or take a nap on the way out than be sick all day and ruin the trip for
the rest of the party.
Ok, now, the catch report, we did not see many billfish
this week, dorado was the number one catch, but it was still pretty decent, 22
out of 34 boats caught at least one, that’s a very nice 65% catch rate. We saw
an improvement on sailfish and blue marlin, “Rebecca” released a blue marlin
estimated at 220 lbs for William Scott Fricke from Orlando FL, and the same
day, Tracy Ann caught a 180lber, unfortunately, the fish died, they also
released a 70 lbs sailfish and landed 3 dorado for Sean & Robert Rayner
from Menifee, CA. The billfish catch of the week goes to “Andrea” with Captain
Orlando Murillo, releasing 3 pacific sailfish for Robert and Jeremy Vargas
& Al Stellan from Colonia NJ, they also release 3 dorados. A total of 28
billfish were caught, 25 were released.

| Vanessa, Lori, Steve and Brock Lloyd from Lake Crystal MN, ready to release Steve's stripey. |
OTHER CATCHES: Tuna is still a bit slow with only 53% of the boats catching this
babies, still there were some very nice catches, C-Rod landed 10 tunas with an
average weight of 15 lbs, for Clay Mazur from Forthworth, TX. “La Brisa” with
Captain Rey Winkley landed 15 tunas and 2 dorados for Paul Michael from
Paradise TX, and “C-Rod” the same day landed 16 tunas, 1 dorado and a sailfish
released for Alexa Egnotovich from Canal Fulton, Ohio. Dorado was much better,
88% of the boats caught an average of 4 dorados, the average size was 15 to 25
lbs. Best catches of the week were for Rebecca with 10 dorados, 9 tunas and 2
striped marlin released for Greg & Ryan Cohn from Setauket, NY and the
Tracy Ann with 12 dorados and a striped marlin released for Steve & Vanessa
Lloyd from Lake Crystal MN.
LOCATION: Pacific, Migrino, Gaspareno, Margaritas, Golden Gate.
WEATHER CONDITIONS: Rainy and cool the first part of the week, now it’s free sauna everyone!
The sky is still a bit cloudy some parts of the day but mostly the sun is back
and with a vengeance. HOT!!!
AVERAGE WATER TEMP: 86-87 F
BEST LURES: Caballito, guacamayo lures, yellow lures.

PISCES FISH REPORT AUGUST 4th to 10th, 2012
Overall Catch Success Rate 97.77%
BILLFISH: Thought last week was good? Well, 2% better overall but when it comes to
marlin count, this week was awesome. 75% of the boats returned with at least
one marlin released, a total of 95 striped marlin were caught, 93 were
released, plus 3 pacific sailfish and a blue marlin released as well.
Catches averaged 1 or 2 striped marlin per boat but
you know that’s just not enough for some of our guys, Captain Ricardo Agundez
released 4 striped marlin for Jayce McMhahon’s party from Keller TX aboard the
Great Escape Jr. On August 5th, Adriana released 5 stripeys for
Kieran Meaney from Sydney Australia, and the same day, celebrity Captain Julio
Castro released 9 stripeys for Ross Donahue & James Connelly from Spearman,
TX, followed by Captain J.R. Alucano aboard the Rebecca with 5 striped marlin
for Jim Olstad from Canada. Next day, again Captain Julio gets the catch of the
day with 8 striped marlin released for Ron, Elizabeth, Alexandra and
Christopher Eckhoff from Irving TX plus 2 20 lbs dorado for a nice supper. Captain
Enrique Martinez aboard Adriana released 2 striped marlin and 2 pacific
sailfish for Matt Tabbert from Dallas TX. Dr. Rick Walsh released a blue marlin
estimated at 350 lbs aboard the Tracy Ann with Captain Julio Castro and mate
Martin, these guys are on fire!
OTHER CATCHES: Tuna catch slowed down a little bit by the number of fish caught, still
58% of the boats caught an average of 4 fish. La Brisa with Captain Rey Winkler
wins the catch of the week with 19 tunas, 4 striped marlin and 2 dorados for Van,
Haddon and Duncan Alford from Lexington KY. Dorado on the other hand was a
hoot, 90% of the boats caught at least 2 dorados with an average weight of 18
to 20 lbs, however, 17 year old Landon Tabor from Duluth GA wanted to make it
to our Facebook page and landed a very nice 61 lb’er aboard C-Rod with Captain
Abel Ramirez.
| Stephen Passy's 35lbs Dodo caught aboard the Great Escape Jr, Captain Ricardo Agundez on the left with the white shirt. |
LOCATION: Pacific, Migrino, Gaspareno, Margaritas, Golden Gate.
WEATHER CONDITIONS: Partly cloudy, a bit windy by the end of the week.
AVERAGE WATER TEMP: 83-85 F
BEST LURES: Billfish were mostly caught on live bait (caballito), tunas were more
interested on cedar plugs and dorado on yellow, purple and green lures.

Blue Marlin Season is Here
I woke up this morning and said to my brother who is visiting with his family "this is blue marlin weather", that is humid, overcast and hot and with tropical weather down below us, it seems to push blue marlin towards us. There have been a flurry of blue marlin catches in the last few days but none of any great size, with most in the 180 to 250 lb class. Today, my prediction was true as we had one released on "Rebecca" at the 95 spot on a Petolero lure by William Fricke from Orlando Florida and another one aboard "Tracy Ann" also at the 95 spot on a Chiliwillie lure; they also released a sailfish and boated three dorado for Sean and Robert Rayner from Menifee, California.

Summer Fishing Fun in Cabo
Fishing is so great right now, it is hard to put into words. Seems a lot of people have chose Cabo as a place to spend time with family, whether it be those with younger kids, teenagers or even brothers that have flown from different parts of the U.S.A. or the world to meet up in Cabo and have some quality time out on the water together with no interruptions other thant the reels zinging when a fish strikes. Boats have been loading up on tuna, dorado, striped marlin and sailfish. The numbers have been nothing short of amazing. Tracy Ann released nine marlin on Sunday, one of the highlights..other boats preferred to release a marlin or two, then try for tuna, whose prescence was obvious by the number of porpoise (dolphins) which were described by one fisherwoman as "bubbling everywhere in the water".
Pictures say more than words, so here are some of the catches of the past few days.

Marlin Catches at 73%
JULY
30th to AUGUST 3rd
Overall
Catch Success Rate 99%
BILLFISH:
Fishing
was remarkably good this week, seeing as we had a big moon all week and quite
rough seas on the Pacific. At the end of the week we saw huge waves hitting the
shore, mostly on the Sea of Cortez; they were so large that they left the steps
of some of the resorts, buried in sand and made swimming un safe – this is very
unusual as we don’t see this unless there is a hurricane around, which there
isn’t. Anyway, the people fishing were not worrying about the beaches but were
concentrating on catching fish. The best catches were at the start of this
period, when we saw “Adriana” release five striped marlin and a sailfish at
Gaspareno for the Porter family from Poway, Georgia. This same day “Andrea” released four marlin
as did “Ruthless”, whilst other boats averaged one to three. For variety, “Tracy
Ann” had one of the best day on August 1st with two striped marlin
and a sailfish released, nine tuna and two dorado. As the week progressed and
the moon reached its zenith, marlin catches slowed a little but tuna took up the
slack, however, the most likely catch this week was still billfish. Seventy
three percent of boats caught marlin and sailfish, giving us a total of 38
marlin and four sailfish.
OTHER
CATCHES: We had some decent catches this week that is until the
tuna seiners moved in and started wrapping the schools in their nets. Unfortunately,
tuna is categorized as a commercial fish, not a species reserved for
sportfishing, which is a shame, because commercial fishing techniques take a
lot of non-targeted species, including, billfish, dorado and turtles as by
catch. “Tracy Ann” had the busiest tuna day on July 31st with 43
(many released) for Larry & Kellie Hemingway from Kingwood, Texas, if this
wasn’t enough they also released a striped marlin and caught a dorado. Catches
of twelve to twenty fish were not unusual in the size range of 12 to 25 lbs.
Our total tuna count was 224 fish. Fifty four percent of boats caught tuna,
whilst dorado catches were just a shade higher, that is there were found slightly
more frequently but catches were usually of one or two fish only. Andrew Holmes
from La Canada, California, did the best on dorado catching twelve as well as
twelve tuna aboard “Valerie”. The dorado preferred the mackerel, while the tuna
stuck to their favorite cedar plugs. Only other species we caught was skipjack this
week.
LOCATION:
Pacific,
Migrino, Gaspareno, Margaritas, Golden Gate, a couple of days on the Cortez at
the 95 and 11.50 spots.
WEATHER
CONDITIONS: Partly cloudy, hot, humid, some perfect
weather days and some rough days with whitecaps on the Pacific as well as big
waves towards the end of the report.
AVERAGE
WATER TEMP: 80-83 F
BEST LURES: live bait was not always available so ballyhoo was
used and bait when found was jurelito and caballito. Lures, green combos and
cedar plugs.

Catches Continue to Soar in Cabo
Catch rates are soaring as the weather heats up and it seems like the fishing is keeping pace with it. Yesterday we had a total of 24 billfish, 22 striped marlin and 2 sailfish. Some of the highlights, were 28 ft Adriana with, 5 striped marlin and 1 sailfish released for the Porter family from Poway, Georgia or how about Valerie for 3 striped marlin, 9 tuna and a doardo. We have a big moon as we write this, usually a sure sign of a slow down at least for billfish and yes, the numbers dipped slightly but the tuna fishing exploded. Today Tracy Ann caught a whopping 45 fish (many released) and then released a striped marlin and boated a doardo for Larry and Kellie Hemmingway from Kingwood, Texas. You know Texans are really smart, they know to get out of town, as it is bloody hot there, much hotter than Cabo and they know that fishing is at its best in the summer months in Mexico. Our fish tally for two days and sixteen trips:
22 striped marlin
2 sailfish
177 yellowfin tuna
27 dorado
20 skipjacks.
If you love to fish now is the time to be here.

Hey, take the skin off first!
Our local vet Humberto Macias, had visitors from Guadalajara in town and being from here, he knew where to turn to make sure his friends had a successful trip, Pisces of course. They were out on Ruthless and released a striped marlin and caught 8 tuna and a dorado, probably something the vet's city slicker friend had never seen before which is why he was trying to eat it whole....well he wanted fresh fish..
