Hi Tracy,

Just a quick note to thank you, Ady, the crew of Valerie and the whole Pisces Team for a really memorable days fishing.
The preparations and organization was first class, with quick responses to my E-Mails and answers to the questions therein. For a client who was in Cabo for only 7 1/2 hours on a cruise ship, getting 6 1/2 hours on the water and almost 5 hours fishing in was a fantastic achievement.
Everything went smooth as clockwork, I was met within 10 minutes of getting to the cruise dock, the paperwork was all ready, 'Valerie' was waiting close by (no need to walk right round to her mooring) and 'she' was ready to go (bait, beer and gear all on board).
Now, about 'Valerie' and the crew. Firstly, thank you for the no cost upgrade. With time not on my side a fast boat to get me to 'Golden Gate' was essential and 'Valerie' delivered with a fast and comfortable ride. With my late start we were one of the last boats to get there but no bother, Capt Roberto put me straight on the fish with a lively 100lb Stripey hooked up within 20 minutes of arriving. A 25 minute fight later on 20lb Penn International stand-up gear and the fish was mine - a couple of quick photo's, a textbook release by deckhand Raymundo and my day was made.
3 good size Dorado and another stripey around 120lb (also released) completed the day - fantastic. Chasing and casting to 'tailing' marlin is something new to a (European) Atlantic angler who usually trolls lures or 'bait'n'switches' - reel good fun. I'll be back!!!
The crew really know their stuff and kept me right all day, all the tackle was top-notch and the boat was superb - ship shape and Bristol fashion as we say in the U.K.
Only 2 regrets;
1. I wish I had had more time. My best marlin day is 2 blues and my best day overall is 1 blue, 1 spearfish and 2 wahoo, so to get 5 fish is fantastic, another hour and I'm certain Capt Roberto would have got me that 3rd Marlin.
2. I wish I had taken my wife with me. She has always wanted to catch a Billfish but won't take on a big blue using heavy chair tackle. These stripeys however would be right up her street. (We have been trying to get her a spearfish for 10 years or so in the Canary Islands, but never get one when she is on the boat). Next time I'm in Cabo I'm going to book 2 or 3 days with you guys - and the wife is coming too, so watch out!!!!
To finish off, what a great day, what a great experience, what a great team. Thank you Pisces Sport fishing. I will be recommending you to my friends, clients and also the cruise line.

Hi Tracy

I just wanted to drop you a quick line and say many, many thanks for organizing a charter for me when I arrived on my cruise ship Oosterdaam. The shore crew arranged a shared charter by putting a sign in the window, and it worked out very well.



I was thrilled to get La Brisa, as we fished with them during the IGFA in 2006. Rey is a great captain, and with Salvador, they are an amazing team. We left the wharf around 8:30am and headed to Golden Gate after buying some bait. When we arrived, the sea was boiling with action, and boats charging about to the many marlin coming up on the surface. Our crew got into the middle of a huge ball of mackerel and sardines, and proceeded to load up with more bait, which turned out to be a good thing. We began fishing around 10:00am and over the course of the next 4 hours, we pitched continuously to marlin, and had 21 strikes, 16 hook-ups and battles, and successfully got 11 marlin to the boat, all of which we released.
I have never seen the sea so active with marlin, whales, seals, birds, and every other specie of marine life as that day.



When we finally had lines in around 2:00pm and headed back to the cruise ship, we were tired and thrilled with the day's fish. Salvador made a special abalone dish, with cold beers to wash it down, and then we just roared along, - and were treated to a magnificent whale jumping show en route back to port.




It was probably one of the best fishing days I've ever had.

I've circulated some of my pics amongst my friends both here in Canada, in the Caribbean, and down in the U.S., and we're now planning a trip back in November.

I'll send you some of the marlin pics I took during the trip, and feel free to share them with Rey and Salvador.

Weather is great in Cabo right now as is fishing, these guys had a great time releasing ten striped marlin aboard “La Brisa”, here this striped marlin lays in shock, awaiting it’s fate…..of course we let it go.

New Record Northern Pike in Canada

Hi anglers,

Our friends Judy and Dale Harkonen from Houghton Minnesota were kind enough to share this with us and we want to share it with you.

This is a new record Northern Pike in Canada . He caught it on Rainy Lake .
Check this thing out.. The man (in the photos below), was fishing and caught a 36" Pike.
As he was reeling it in, a 56" - 55 lb Pike tried to eat it !!!!!

He landed them both in the same net. The last picture is unreal.

Pisces ask our friends and customers to catch and release sharks...

Sharks continue to make a comeback and once again this week we had a couple of threshers, a hammerhead and a mako. We heard of a big 180 lb thresher caught aboard "Retriever", the fish was extremely strong, probably because it was hooked with a circle hook and wasn't feeling much pain. Once boated it was found to be a pregnant female with almost fully developed embryos, two were almost full formed and were taken out of their sacs and began swimming around in the bait tank and were then put into the sea, hopefully to survive.

Sharks are now an endangered specie, we would like to ask our customers and friends to catch and release sharks, just like you do with marlin.

Caught aboard 61 ft Viking “Retriever” by Martha Walmurut on January 11th

This is about a 180lbs thresher shark which we caught today. We had a live mackerel down deep and the bite was pretty weird, not exactly like a marlin, but that is what was in the area. I never give up a fight, but, after an hour, and a broken back- 40# line, I gave it to Larry. It took another hour: and all three of us, me, Larry, and Omar, fought it before we finally got it up. My back is now officially broken! just kidding.

I am copying this to Tracy because i think this is probably what we had on last week that we broke off after 2 hours or so.

A couple of interesting things:

Look at the hook in the corner of the mouth on the right side. It is a rather small 8/0 circle hook, then look at the mouth and the teeth. Hard to believe that the line did not break - although, the rod did and we had to tie onto another rod to finish the fight. this is a testament that circle hooks do not hurt fish...

Second, look at the size of the tail. it was 52", more than half the size of the body.

Finally, the most interest thing was that when we cut it open, there were a number of almost fully formed babies inside. We kept two. They had the same long tail, teeth were formed, but look at the size of the eyes..

When we took them out of the umbilical sack, they appeared to be dead, but after pictures, we put them in the bait tank and they started swimming around and we finally released them in hopes they will live. Also, there were 3 or 4 more sacs with less developed embryos in the shark.

We never know what wonders we are about to encounter when we leave the dock each morning.

Around the Globe...

Well you know we are down here in sunny Cabo and you know what type of species we catch, but we think about you all in your different locations over the globe and what you do for fishing when you can’t be here….so we thought this was interesting and wanted to share this with you.

Got Fish!!!! Ontario Fish Story (a big one!)

FYI: This Sturgeon is Still alive , just worn out from the fight.
They turned him loose after the photo.



This Sturgeon was caught at TWO CREEKS CONSERVATION AREA, Wheatley, ON (at Lake Erie ) 11/19/2007
It weighed out at over 1,000 lbs and measured out at 11'1'. It was 56' around the girth and took over 6 and a half hours, and 4 dozen beers, for the 4 guys taking turns at the reeling
it in.

Any Sturgeon OVER five feet has to be released unharmed and cannot be removed from
the water.

They are brood/breeding stock and probably older than most of us.
